Fashion District Logo The 90-block Fashion District is contained by Seventh Street on the north, the 10 Freeway on the south, San Pedro Street on the east and Main Street on the west.  Los Angeles’ Fashion District is the largest concentration of fashion-related businesses in the Western United States.  It is by far one of the most bustling, vibrant, and energetic districts in the Downtown area.

The Fashion District is a design, warehouse, and distribution nexus of the clothing and fabric industry in Downtown Los Angeles.  Since the 1930s, the area formerly known as the Garment District has brimmed with discount stores and manufacturing. Once rather inaccessible to visitors without a wholesale license, the renamed Fashion District has retooled its identity with a focus on attracting retail bargain hunters to the shopping mecca. The entire district offers a wide array of wares for any shopper, from the trendsetting designer to the bargain shopper.  Clothing ranges from lingerie to formal gowns; hats to heels; knock-off designer purses to beaded clutches and a bevy of costume jewelry. Men and children are served here too, with children’s wear, athletic wear, sneakers and suits, accessories, textiles, flowers are all available to any shopper.

The area is divided into roughly five sections: the behemoth (and largely wholesale) California Market Center on Ninth Street and nearby wholesale-only shops; the Cooper Building at Ninth and Los Angeles streets (also wholesale); dozens of small retail outlets between Los Angeles, Wall, Ninth and Pico; menswear stores dotting Los Angeles Street between Seventh and Ninth streets; and the popular shopping thoroughfare Santee Alley.

Santee Alley, a heavily populated "back alley" shopping path between Maple and Santee Streets, stretching from Olympic Boulevard to Pico Boulevard. This alley is notorious for being home to a large concentration of counterfeiters trying to sell a variety of faux designer goods, ripped DVDs, and other stolen or bootleg items. Despite this, there are also many reputable and honest merchants in the alley.

California Market Center is centrally located in the Fashion District, and similar to the Cooper Building and the New Mart. It is home to the offices of many of Los Angeles' aspiring clothing designers, sellers, and buyers, as well as the Otis College of Art and Design's School of Fashion Design.

The Flower Mart, the largest flower market in the United States, is wedged into the Fashion District as well. Located mostly on Wall Street between Seventh and Eight streets, virtually every variety of fresh cut flower can be found here for rock bottom prices, plus potted plants and floral supplies.
